It has been interesting observing and delving into the charts of Sun-Saturn individuals, on the surface most of my examples don’t appear self-conscious, unconfident, or blocked in self expression. Saturn as the “mask” shows us how intelligently and powerfully well defended this planet can be. Fears are covered up, and a display of over self-confidence and even egotism is obvious (Sun). The next example I will show you is another outrageous character Chart Here.
Dali Salvador
Dali has been described as having an egocentric nature, he describes his imagination as so intense, that he can even remember the intra-uterine-images. He described it as paradise with the colours of hell. Dali began painting form the age of 6. Dali’s childhood was full of perverse and sadistic elements that become a major symbolism in his art work. Dali wanted to stamp his individuality onto the world. Dali performed acts of sadism and masochism.
In Dali’s natal chart he has four planets in Taurus in the 11th house square to Saturn in Aquarius 8th house. The sign of Taurus is known for it’s strong artistic ability. Venus rules Taurus the goddess of love and beauty. Taurus responds to physical beauty, pleasure, nature and has a natural sense of design. Taurus is often skilled in painting or photography.
Dali had a compulsive need to bring ‘form to his art’, a need to prove himself through a painful feeling of inferiority and separateness from society (Saturn in Aquarius). Dali had a powerful need to express his individuality to the collective in practical, artistic expression (Sun in Taurus) bringing about growth and change.
Dali had enrolled in the college of fine art and initially he was a model student, he soon regarded his contemporaries and tutors both as inferiors. His shyness and fears almost crippled him. Terrified of everything, he was afraid to cross the street by himself and was completely unable to face the challenge of public transportation. He could not buy new shoes because of his phobia about exposing his feet, and he carried talismans to ward off evil spirits. This type of fear was described in Liz Greene’s book ”Relating” a discussion on the psychological types and element of earth. Dali’s natal chart overall is the “earth” personality. Planets focused in the 11th house in the natal chart symbolise a need for collective contribution, hopes and wishes. Dali’s Taurean planets in the 11th sector of the chart describe practical and artistic aspiration focused through collective ideals and social progress.
By Liz Greene:
“The Earthy type being sensation orientated, possesses an inferior function a rather primitive intuitive sense. In some cases this stunted intuition beleaguers him with irrational fears and vague apprehensions of a negative kind which perpetually interfere with his simple black-and-white world. Earth has a longing for what he calls the spiritual, although this frequently expressed as a secret fascination or “belief” in ghosts, psychism, and other parapsychological phenomena without any understanding of the implications inherent in the existence of this sort of ”supernatural” world.”
Later in life Dali suffered mental illness, as many great artists do. The Moon is angular in Aries 9th house square to Uranus. A fiery Moon-Uranus aspect, explains his wild untamed character. Moon in Aries is emotionally impulsive and independent. The Moon is challenged (part of a t,square) so Dali can be restless and moody, and touched by higher levels of reality. The Moon is very heightened to collective energy, and he has a need to illuminate, be original, unconventional, eccentric and non conformist (Uranus). The Moon can certainly take flight (9th) into fantasy (Neptune 12th) and eccentricity (Uranus). His art work is infused with bright colour and strange symbolism.
Another Sun-Saturn is Arnold Schwarzenegger

Arnold has Sun/Saturn/Pluto all conjunct in Leo 1st house. Arnie has a powerful need to express himself and possesses strong perseverance and will. A high focus upon his physical appearance. Arnold may have been too hard on himself during his training, he was fuelled by feelings of inferiority, but what a ’display’ of physical strength he presented. Arnold has a powerful (Pluto) endurance (Saturn). And I guess you have to be a little ‘obsessed’ with your physical body for this amount of training. To achieve these results he needs to be highly disciplined.
Sun-Saturn individuals all possess a common thread in their personality but expressed in different ways according to their own natal disposition. Karen Carpenter (Sun in 10th Pisces) was destined for artistic expression in her career. Saturn in Virgo 4th overshadowed her Sun with fears, self-doubt and obsessive compulsive need to be perfect. Her deep insecurity (Saturn 4th) eventually destroyed her self esteem. Moon/Pluto shows her obsessive nature . Karen found it extremely difficult to be nurtured (dark moon). Uranus Rising square Mars describes a self-willed individual and she could detach from her own bodily instincts (Uranus in Cancer/1st).
Jim Carrey aimed to perfect his comedic timing and was a perfectionist, probably doubly hard on himself with Sun in Capricorn, and underneath he was a man who suffered deep depression. Dali himself was plagued by crippling fears. Arnold Schwarzenegger built a body armour he competed with others to be the best, strongest, and most powerful. The brawn may have masked deep feelings of inferiority regarding his physical appearance. To outsiders he appears vain about his appearance (Leo planets 1st), but a deeper look at Saturn in the natal chart reveals persistence and determination.
